BrasilAgro, a company that works in the agricultural land market, uses the BlackBerry® application developed with the Navita Mobile platform for SAP mobilization and speeds up approvals of purchase orders and releases of budget funds by more than 85%.

Executives from BrasilAgro, a company founded with the goal of exploring opportunities in the Brazilian agricultural land market, needed a secure solution for remote access to the company's SAP, since almost 80% of its employees work outside the office. The idea was to adopt into their BlackBerry® devices a SAP integrated application, developed with Navita Mobile – Navita platform for creating applications for smartphones from RIM - Research in Motion. The challenge was to give employees access to ERP data wherever they are, thereby expediting approvals of purchase orders and releases of budget funds made by administrators of the farms that were acquired and managed by the company.
The SAP was adopted by BrasilAgro in June 2009 as a business management system, where the procedures for approving purchase orders, budgets, etc. are deployed. With Navita's solution, the company extended ERP mobile access to smartphones from RIM - Research in Motion. As a result, purchase order approvals done at a distance that previously took 24 hours to sign off, started taking no more than three hours – a difference of more than 85%.
Currently, there are 12 BrasilAgro executives, between Farm Managers, Business Managers and Directors, who use BlackBerry devices and the Navita application for approving purchase requests from the purchasing department enabling them to view detailed information on their smartphones in regards to product conditions, price, etc. As more farms start being managed, the number of users tends to increase as new executives are added. Each company manager is responsible for managing an average of three properties that are acquired.
The process for developing and deploying the Blackberry applications for BrasilAgro was completed in just two months, between November 2009 and the beginning of 2010. Navita signed a partnership with Sonda Procwork, who did the SAP integration solution.
In addition to providing 24 hour ERP access, from any location, the Navita solution avoids the exposure of information on the Internet. It also helps BrasAgro executives to be immediately aware of all purchase requests and proposals for release of budget funds, by means of audible and vibration notifications on the BlackBerry device.
“The application gives you seamless mobility in accessing the SAP and also ensures greater integrity in regards to financial information. Now, approvals are done automatically," says Gustavo Lopez from BrasilAgro. "Processes are more agile in today's world, and often the operations sequence depends on quick decisions from executives who are out of the office," he explains. The company is considering including other options in the application menu, such as product quality classification and sales order approvals.
“Through the BlackBerry connectivity platform, which allows for implementing integration features to the SAP, you can provide any type of transactional operation of SAP ERP business processes on BlackBerry mobile devices, enabling users to interact effectively with information from the enterprise system in real time," says Paulo Henrique Wisneski, Solutions Manager at Sonda Procwork, who worked on the project in conjunction with Navita.
“This type of technology solution has enormous potential to optimize to the utmost critical business processes, since it has the ability to pick up, process and share information that is relevant to the business, at any time and place," he concludes.
“Contrary to what most people think, mobility today is no longer just another differential, but a basic need for all types of businesses. It doesn't matter if your employees are in major cities, airports, outside the country or even in the middle of a farm. They can make decisions more quickly which will increase competitiveness and reduce costs for their companies," affirms Fabio Nunes, Operations Director at Navita.
